1. Salt water test

The simplest and most convenient way to identify the authenticity of amber bracelets is the salt water test. Since the density of amber is very small, put the amber imitated by plastic and glass into saturated salt water (add salt to water until it can no longer dissolve) for testing. The real amber will float, while glass and most plastics will sink. When the salt concentration is greater than 1 to 4, the real amber will slowly float, while the fake amber will not float.

2. Observe the bubbles

Natural amber is mostly in the shape of blocks, cakes, kidneys, tumors, elongated water drops and other irregular shapes, while regular amber is mostly not real. Real amber gives people a soft, warm and lustrous feeling, while many synthetic products give people a cold feeling. Amber must go through some processes in the process of formation to make it imperfect, and it often ends up with bubbles, fragments and cracks. If each bead of an amber bracelet is very similar and transparent, or the insect contained in the amber is very complete, it is very suspicious. There are usually beautiful lotus leaf scales in amber, and it has different feelings from different angles. Fake amber is generally not very transparent, and the scales emit a dead light. The scene is similar from different angles, lacking the aura of amber.

3. Solvent test

Chemical reagents can be used to identify the authenticity of amber bracelets. Ether and alcohol are very sensitive, cheap and convenient reagents for distinguishing amber from copal resin. Use ether and alcohol to scrub the amber separately. The sticky part is the resin, while the amber does not react. Ether is the best tool for distinguishing other resins from amber, but it has little effect on copal resin.

4. Listen to the sound

If you gently rub an uninlaid amber chain or beads in your hand, it will make a very soft and slightly dull sound. If it is made of plastic or resin, the sound will be crisper. This is also an important way to identify the authenticity of an amber bracelet.

One is to test the specific gravity. Put amber in 1:4 salt water, the natural amber will float, and the fake will sink. The density of amber is between 1.05-1.10, and the texture is very light.

The second method is to burn with a needle. Burning the amber surface with a red-hot needle will make the natural amber black, but it will not stick to the needle and will have a rosin smell. Fake amber will stick to the needle and have a stringy smell, and even have a plastic smell.

The third is to use ether to test. Use nail polish remover containing ether to wipe the surface of amber. Natural amber will not react, but the fake will be corroded.

Looking at a sword under a lamp can reveal its sharpness and its ambition, but it is not suitable to look at amber under a lamp, because under the light, especially colored light, the true color of amber will have color difference. Therefore, the color of amber should be viewed under sufficient natural light.

2) White background to see the original color

Some transparent amber will change color under light at different angles. If you place the amber against a white background, you will see its own texture and color.

3) Color change on black background

For amber with color changes on the surface, such as blue amber, you can better see the color of the color change by observing it against a black background. The color of the color change combined with its original color is the true color of the amber!

Yellow series: light yellow, light lemon yellow, golden yellow, chicken fat yellow, darker colors include orange yellow, also called chicken fat red;

Red series: golden red, cherry red, wine red, brown red, the darkest color is black, which looks black and is translucent red, and is amber;
