What kind of fabrics are sweaters generally made of? A summary of sweater fabrics

I believe everyone is familiar with the material of sweaters, but not so clear about the fabric of knitted sweaters. In fact, knitted sweaters are divided into many kinds of fabrics like sweaters. Now, the editor of No. 5.com will tell you what kind of fabrics knitted sweaters are generally made of?

What kind of fabric is a sweater usually made of?

Common sweaters are generally made of cotton, wool, mohair, acrylic, etc. The advantage of cotton is that it will not shrink and can be worn close to the skin; the advantage of wool is that it has good warmth retention. The more wool it contains, the more expensive it will be, but it is more likely to shrink, so it is recommended to choose a larger size when purchasing; mohair is also a type of wool, which is better than ordinary wool; the advantage of acrylic is that it will not shrink.

Generally speaking, sweaters refer to clothing knitted with knitting equipment. Therefore, in general, clothes knitted with wool, cotton, and various chemical fiber materials are sweaters, including sweaters. Even sweatshirts and stretch shirts are knitted, so there is also a knitted T-shirt. However, due to habit, many people regard sweaters as ordinary thin sweaters, which is a big misunderstanding.

Sweater fabric comparison

1: Cotton

1) Soft and comfortable to wear

2) Natural and will not cause allergies

3) Sweat-absorbent, wear close to the body

2: Polyester

1) Polyester fabric has high strength and elastic recovery ability. Therefore, it is durable, wrinkle-resistant and iron-free.

2) Polyester fabrics have poor moisture absorption, making them feel stuffy when worn. They are also prone to static electricity and dust, which affects their appearance and comfort. However, they are very easy to dry after washing, and their wet strength hardly decreases, and they do not deform, making them good washable and wearable.

3) Polyester is the most heat-resistant fabric among synthetic fabrics. It is thermoplastic and can be made into pleated skirts with long-lasting pleats. At the same time, polyester fabrics have poor melting resistance and are prone to forming holes when exposed to cigarette ash, sparks, etc. Therefore, when wearing, try to avoid contact with cigarette butts, sparks, etc.

3: Wool

Wool is an animal hair fiber and is a natural fiber. Chemical fiber is a chemical fiber. Wool fiber has natural curl, is relatively long, and has scales on the surface, which is conducive to fiber bonding during spinning. The fiber is fluffy and contains air with low thermal conductivity, so it has excellent warmth retention. Wool fiber has good elasticity, which can make the fabric crisp and wrinkle-free. It has strong moisture absorption and good plasticity. The characteristic of wool fiber is shrinkage.

4: Acrylic

Acrylic is known as synthetic wool, and its elasticity and fluffiness are similar to natural wool. Therefore, the warmth retention of its fabric is not inferior to that of wool fabric, and is even about 15% higher than that of similar wool fabric.

How to choose a sweater

1. Wool knitting is different from cotton knitting. It is woven directly with yarn during the flat knitting process. Just like knitting a sweater, a wool yarn cannot be continuous from beginning to end. Therefore, in this process, workers will use knotting to connect each wool yarn. Generally speaking, a sweater cannot be without knots, but a good quality sweater will always have its knots hidden in invisible places, such as side seams, armpits and other inconspicuous places.

2. Another manifestation of the workmanship quality of a sweater is the pattern on the foot, which is called "bright needle closing" in the industry. It often appears at the neckline and shoulder straps. Generally speaking, whether it is a closing stitch or a sleeve, it is always more valuable than the overlock in a sweater. When we open some sweaters, we can see that the connection between the garment and the sleeve is an overlock like woven or cotton knitted. In fact, this is definitely not a high-quality product in the field of wool knitting. To put it in a broader context, there is a considerable price gap between sweaters with sleeves and sweaters with overlock in foreign trade exports.

3. From the perspective of the raw fabric of a sweater, the needle path is a key point. It is the small braids we see, they must be uniform and of the same size. If the needle path is uneven in thickness, it means that the knitting equipment code is not properly adjusted during the loom process or the yarn has thick and thin hairs.

4. Knitted sweaters are divided into two types: hand-crocheted or hand-knitted and machine-woven. The flexible and diverse patterns of hand-crocheted sweaters cannot be replaced by knitting machines. The output is low, so the price is expensive. Hand-crocheted sweaters are mainly distributed in Shantou area. The commonly used needle types of knitting machines are: 1.5 needles, 3 needles, 5 needles, 7 needles, 9 needles, 12 needles, 14 needles, 16 needles, 18 needles, etc. (The so-called needle type refers to the number of needles arranged in 1 inch. The more needles, the thinner the strips, the thinner the yarn used, and the higher the price. The higher the process requirements, the higher the processing fee).

What to do if the sweater fabric is very tight

Method 1: Clean with neutral detergent

Keep the water temperature for washing cardigans at around 35 degrees Celsius, and use high-grade neutral detergent. The ratio of water to detergent should be 3:1. Do not wring the sweater hard, just rinse it with clean water.

Method 2: Softening with softener

If you soak and wash a newly bought cardigan with a special softener, the wool sweater will become soft and less prickly. Or you can rub the sweater with a soft brush to remove some particularly coarse wool.

Method: Soak in tri-ammonia water

When washing a cardigan, add an appropriate amount of dry cleaning agent and ammonia water to warm water, and add a few drops of vinegar during rinsing. This can help increase the original softness of the wool fabric and make the sweater more close-fitting and comfortable to wear.
