What is dermabrasion?

Skin dermabrasion, also known as dermabrasion, is the most commonly used method of medical cosmetic skin resurfacing in clinical practice. Dermabrasion often uses a grinding head to perform controllable mechanical grinding of the epidermis and superficial dermis. The repair mainly relies on the basal cells in the epidermis and the spinous cells close to the basal layer, as well as the remaining skin appendages such as the hair follicle wall, the eccrine duct wall, the sebaceous gland duct wall and other tissues. When the wound heals, the tissue on the skin surface can be changed, and the collagen fibers and elastic fibers in the dermis can be rearranged. The remaining skin appendages (hair follicles, sebaceous glands, sweat glands) will quickly form a new epidermis, leaving almost no scars on the wound, thus completing a type of treatment and beauty.

What does dermabrasion do?

Dermabrasion is a method of treating skin diseases by mechanical abrasion. Dermabrasion was initially used mainly to treat acne scars. Dermabrasion is an effective surgical method for cosmetic surgery and treatment of certain diseases. It can be expanded to treat many skin diseases that affect beauty. The scope of dermabrasion is very wide. The amount of dermabrasion after surgery may vary depending on different diseases, different individuals, and different conditions of the same disease. For example, some superficial scars can be very effective after one dermabrasion treatment; while some deeper depressed scars can only be improved after one treatment, and two to three dermabrasions are required. Some require more times to achieve satisfactory results.

Are there any side effects of dermabrasion?

The side effects of skin grinding are: first, local infection, because there will be some exudation during grinding, and the exudate is a good culture medium for bacteria, so the first is infection; the second is delayed healing of the wound; the third is that some people may have pigmentation in the early stage after healing, which is temporary, and generally the pigmentation will gradually subside after 6 to 12 months; the last one is that it may aggravate the possibility of scars. For example, infection, or inappropriate timing of dressing removal, etc., may aggravate local scars.

What should I pay attention to during skin grinding?

The first thing to do after skin grinding is to keep the local area dry; the second point is that if mechanical grinding is used, the dressing on the surface, especially the innermost layer of Vaseline gauze, should be allowed to fall off naturally to avoid damaging the new epithelium again by forcibly tearing off the gauze, thereby aggravating the scar; the third thing is to pay attention to avoid light after the gauze falls off and the wound heals; the fourth thing is to perform local maintenance and apply some oil to protect the local skin.
