Dangers of dental implants Side effects of dental implants

Dental implants have advantages and disadvantages, but when the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, it can be done as long as the risk factors are avoided. So what are the dangers of dental implants? Let's take a look.

Dangers of dental implants

Dental implants are relatively safe and will not cause obvious harm to the human body, including no impact on MRI and CT scans after implantation. Dental implants can be implanted in the alveolar bone, have good biocompatibility, and can form bone integration with the human alveolar bone. Generally, before implants are put on the market, they must undergo rigorous testing, including cytotoxicity tests, carcinogenicity tests, and teratogenicity tests. Only after passing animal tests will human trials be conducted. Only after passing human tests will the implants be put on the market. Implant materials are also widely used in orthopedics, and do not require secondary surgery to remove them, which indirectly proves that they are relatively safe and do not harm the human body.

Side effects of dental implants

1. Infection

The hazards of this type of dental implants are mostly due to contamination of the surgical area or surgical instruments and other complications that may induce infection.

2. Gingival hyperplasia

Too little penetration of the abutment into the gums or poor connection between the abutment and the bridge can lead to poor local hygiene and long-term chronic inflammatory stimulation, which can cause gingival hyperplasia. Therefore, this is also one of the hazards of dental implants.

3. Numbness of lower lip

If the dental implant technology is in place, the nerve will not be damaged, because there is a nerve under the alveolar bone, called the inferior alveolar nerve. If the implant is placed at the back, it will damage the nerve. Therefore, in order to protect the nerve, it is implanted in front of the nerve.

4. Perforation of sinus mucosa

When dental implants are placed in the maxillary cavity, due to insufficient bone mass, the implants may easily penetrate the maxillary sinus or nasal mucosa, which will inevitably cause infection around the implants and should be removed in a timely manner.

5. Bleeding

Dental implant is a minimally invasive surgery, and there should be no bleeding after the implant. This is due to the inadequate dental implant technology, because dental implants still cause some damage to the periodontal tissue. If the dentist causes severe damage during mucoperiosteal stripping or extensive submucosal stripping, especially if the postoperative compression is poor, submucosal or subcutaneous bleeding is likely to occur.

How long does it take to repair a denture?

Generally, implant denture restoration takes at least 4-5 months. It is recommended to eliminate tension. Implant dentures mainly depend on the condition of your jaw, such as width, height and periodontal condition. Generally, those who meet the conditions will first have the implant implanted. It takes 3 months for the implant to integrate with the bone, then wear the healing abutment for about half a month, then wear the repair abutment, and then process the crown on the bite model for about 1 week, and finally complete the final wearing.

Who are not suitable for dental implants?

1. People with serious systemic diseases, such as high blood pressure, severe diabetes, and conventional treatments cannot control them, or the patient cannot control this condition, then implant treatment cannot be performed.

2. People whose local alveolar bone width and height are severely insufficient.

3. People with severe bone deficiency.

4. People who take medications for a long time. For example, bisphosphonates will have a great impact on the healing of local wounds.
